Before you book
Apple said I need a new logic board. Is that my only option?
No. It is Apple's service option because Apple replaces the board as an assembly. Component-level diagnosis can determine whether the actual failed circuit can be repaired instead.
Do you only do board repair on MacBooks?
No. Batteries, screens, keyboards, trackpads, charging issues, startup problems, liquid damage, and other routine MacBook repairs are part of the normal service offering.
My screen is black but I can faintly see an image. What does that mean?
That can indicate a backlight problem rather than a failed display panel. It should be diagnosed before an expensive screen is ordered.
Can you work on a MacBook Apple calls vintage or obsolete?
Often, yes. Apple's service cutoff does not automatically determine whether an independent repair is possible. Repairability depends on the model, the fault, and available parts and components.
Can you get my files off a MacBook that will not turn on?
On most modern MacBooks storage is soldered to the logic board, so this is board work. Say so when you book, because recovery has to be attempted before anything else that risks the data.
Something was spilled on it and it still works. Should I wait?
No. Corrosion continues for weeks after the machine dries and it is actively consuming the board while it waits. The sooner it is cleaned, the more survives.
