Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Benjamin's Computer Repair collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It covers our website, our repair intake and booking system, our text messages, and the data that sits on the devices you bring us.
Section 01
Who we are
Benjamin's Computer Repair LLC operates a computer and electronics repair shop at 5500 Sunrise Hwy., Massapequa, NY 11758. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Benjamin's Computer Repair LLC, and "you" means anyone who uses our website, books a repair, or brings us a device.
You can reach us about anything in this policy by phone or text at (646) 656-7886, by email at barnett@benjaminscomputerrepair.com, or in person at the shop.
Section 02
What we collect
We collect the smallest amount of information we can and still do the work. In practice that is:
- Contact details you give us when you book a repair, call, text, or email: your name, phone number, email address, and business name if you give one.
- Device and repair details: the device type, brand, model, the problem you describe, what we find during diagnosis, the work performed, and the repair history of that device with us.
- Payment records: what was charged and whether it was paid. Card payments are handled by our payment processor, and we do not store full card numbers.
- Website usage information: cookies and analytics, described in Section 06.
We do not buy personal information from data brokers, and we do not build marketing profiles about you.
Section 03
Text messages
We use text messages to keep you informed about your repair. This is the part of the policy most people care about, so it is spelled out in full.
What we text you about
Service messages relating to a repair you have with us: that we received the device, the result of diagnosis, a question that needs your approval, a change in cost or scope, and that the device is finished and ready to collect. We may also text you back when you text us first.
Consent
By giving us your mobile number when you book or drop off a repair, you agree to receive service text messages about that repair. Consent to receive service messages is not a condition of purchase, and you can withdraw it at any time without affecting your repair. If you would rather we called instead, say so and we will call.
Stopping messages
Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or call us at (646) 656-7886. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies and depends on the progress of your repair. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
What we never do with your mobile number
We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or text message consent with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes. Your number is used to service your repair and to reach you about your device. It is shared only with the messaging provider that delivers the message on our behalf.
Section 04
Phone calls
We use the same number for calls and texts. We do not record phone calls. If that ever changes, we will tell you at the start of the call and update this policy before doing it. We may keep brief written notes of what was discussed about a repair, because that is how the repair gets done correctly.
Section 05
The data on your device
This is the most sensitive information we come into contact with, and it is worth being direct about it.
- We access only what the repair requires. Testing a screen, a battery, a charging circuit, or a boot fault usually requires powering the device on and confirming it works. It does not require reading your files, and we do not go looking through them.
- We do not copy, retain, or transfer the contents of your device, with one exception: data recovery and data transfer jobs, where copying your data is the job you asked us to do. In those cases the copy exists only as long as needed to complete and verify the work, and is then removed from our equipment unless you ask us to hold it.
- If you give us a passcode or password so we can test the repair, it is used only for that, and only for as long as the device is with us. See the Repair Terms for more on passcodes.
- If we encounter material that we are legally required to report, we will comply with the law. Nothing in this policy prevents that.
If you would prefer we not power the device on beyond what is strictly necessary, or you want to remove sensitive data before the repair, tell us at drop-off and we will work with you.
Section 06
Cookies, analytics, and the systems we use
Our booking, repair tickets, and repair status lookup run on RepairShopr, a third-party repair shop management platform. When you book a repair or check a repair status on our website, that form is provided by RepairShopr inside our page, and the information you enter goes to them as our service provider so that we can run the repair. Their own cookies and privacy practices apply to that form.
The other companies that handle information for us are our website host, our email provider, our text messaging provider, and our payment processor. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing.
Section 07
How we use what we collect
- To diagnose, quote, and repair your device, and to reach you about it.
- To take payment and keep accounting and tax records.
- To honour warranty claims, which requires knowing what we did to the device and when.
- To answer questions and handle disputes.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not use your information for behavioural advertising, and we do not sell personal information.
Section 08
How long we keep it
Repair records are kept for as long as we may need them to support a warranty claim, resolve a dispute, or satisfy accounting and tax requirements, and then are disposed of. Data copied as part of a data recovery job is removed once the job is complete and collected, unless you have asked us to keep it. If you want your contact record removed, ask us and we will remove what we are not required to keep.
Section 09
How we protect it
Devices left with us are kept in the shop, not in a public area. Repair records are held in access-controlled systems. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to a business of our size, consistent with New York's data security requirements. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you as required by law.
Section 10
Your choices
- Ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your contact record, subject to records we must keep.
- Stop text messages at any time by replying STOP, or ask us to call instead.
- Decline to give us a passcode. It may limit how far we can test a repair, and we will tell you if it does.
Ask by phone, text, email, or in person. We do not charge for this.
Section 11
Children
Our services are directed at the general public and not at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. A parent or guardian is welcome to book a repair on a child's behalf.
Section 12
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes to how we use text messages or device data will be explained here rather than buried.
Questions about this policy: call or text (646) 656-7886, email barnett@benjaminscomputerrepair.com, or come into the shop at 5500 Sunrise Hwy., Massapequa, NY 11758.
