Console powers on but has no picture? Check the HDMI path.
A damaged HDMI port is common on PlayStation and Xbox, but a no-picture symptom can also involve torn pads, damaged traces, protection components, or display circuitry around the port. We inspect the entire HDMI path before calling the repair complete.
Section 01 / Symptoms
Is it the port?
Rule out the free things first. The rest point at the board.
Section 02 / Repair
Why the port takes the damage
This failure is mechanical, not electronic, which is why it happens to perfectly healthy consoles and why it is repairable.
The port is the weakest point in the chain
A stiff HDMI cable hangs out of the back of a console that sits in a cabinet or under a television. Someone knocks the cable, moves the unit, or trips the lead, and all of that force arrives at a connector held on by pins finer than a hair.
Pins tear and pads lift
The force does not break the port cleanly. It shears individual pins from their pads and, on a harder knock, lifts the pads off the board entirely along with the traces feeding them. The console still runs perfectly. It simply has no path for a video signal to leave by.
Removing without adding damage
The damaged port is removed with controlled hot air. Getting this wrong lifts more pads than the original impact did, which is why it is done under a microscope with the surrounding components shielded rather than with a soldering iron.
Rebuilding pads, then refitting
Where pads and traces have been torn away they are rebuilt before the new port goes on, because a port soldered onto missing pads makes no connection. The replacement is then fitted and reflowed pin by pin, and the circuitry around it is checked before the console is reassembled and tested on a real display.

Section 04 / Questions
Before you book
My PS5 turns on but the TV says no signal. Is the console dead?
Almost certainly not. That combination, a console running normally with no video output, is the signature of a damaged HDMI port. The rest of the machine is usually in perfect health. Test another cable and another input first to rule those out, and if it fails on everything it is the port.
Can the port be repaired, or does the board need replacing?
Repaired. The port is a component soldered to the board, so it comes off and a new one goes on. Where the impact tore pads or traces away, those are rebuilt first so the replacement has something to connect to. Replacing the board for a damaged connector is not necessary.
Is it worth repairing rather than buying a new console?
Financially it is not close, and there is more to it than the price. A replacement console means moving your library, saves, and account across, and some of that does not move cleanly. The repair keeps the machine you already have exactly as it was.
Someone told me a hot air gun and solder paste would do it.
The removal is where these repairs go wrong. Uncontrolled heat lifts more pads than the original knock did, and turns a contained port replacement into rebuilding traces that were never damaged. It is done under a microscope with controlled heat and the surrounding components shielded for exactly that reason.

Bring the console to the Massapequa shop for HDMI diagnosis.
If the port was previously replaced, tell us before intake so prior repair work is part of the inspection. $40 diagnostic credited toward approved repair.
